🥳 Archie graduated! 🥳
Backstory:
Archie’s mom enrolled him in our Quality K9 program (this program covers just about anything and everything!) but along the way she discovered that Archie had a resource guarding problem with food.
We quickly halted obedience skills to focus the training on his food aggression, and I’m so happy to say that his resource guarding behaviors are gone! (Archie’s mom is continuing resource guarding training and has protocols in place to ensure that this behavior is managed).
Great! Back to obedience skills! NOPE!
Archie’s mom noticed him walking a little funky. She brought him in to confirm her suspicions that something was wrong. We consulted with Archie’s veterinary team and sure enough, both hips were wonky 😔 I’m talking bone-on-bone. Further consults and some tears later, we figured out the best course of action. We were able to continue training, but surgery had to wait until Archie reached 9 months old to give him some time to grow.
Archie graduated last week with flying colors and I’m so incredibly proud of him and his mom! Their next step is heading back to New York for Archie to have surgery on both hips.
I’m not supposed to have favorites, but… Archie is so smart and such a sweet boy despite these setbacks! And his MOM! Up to a $20k surgery (yes, you read that right!) and she will move mountains to make it happen. She is the definition of what a dog parent should be! She has worked endlessly, following every instruction to help her fur baby, and I’m in awe of her dedication to Archie!
Congratulations Archie and Sam! I’m so proud of you both and I can’t wait to see what you accomplish! Have a safe trip, and everyone wish Archie a smooth recovery from his surgeries!
